Adobe products suck. I wish I didn’t have to use them because they are nothing but problems from the installation on through. And forget about getting support for older versions. I’ll say it again, Adobe products suck. Please, somebody, come up with a better industry standard. Hey, perhaps one that actually works? Wow, what a concept.

Personally I resort to creating html forms for internal purposes because I loathe using Acrobat for fillable forms. Acrobat’s one strength is if you want to convert print reports etc to digital format. If thats the case there are a lot of free utilities that allow you to do this. If you for example want to convert a word doc to PDF or print something to a PDF file cutePDF writer is a free utility that can do this for you.

If you need to edit a PDF, however, you may need acrobat pro. There are alternative PDF editing applications out there but I have never used them so I cant really comment on how well they work. I upgraded to windows 7 and had issues trying to install Acrobat 8 I could not get it to install. You may need Acrobat 9 if you are on windows 7. I have heard some bad things about version 9 so buyer beware.

Adobe Acrobat is the industry standard for creating and editing .pdf products. Once the original large investment is made with Adobe for this product, Adobe allows upgrades to new releases at a more reasonable price. This is a good product but not great. Like Microsoft or other large software houses, Adobe releases with bugs which they allow their customers to find. Overall, Adobe is better than most in this area.

Installs painlessly, and works as expected. My only negative is the price is a bit high. There are less expensive pdf makers on the market if all you want to do is make pdf files. If you need more advanced features like editing, Adobe is the best choice.
