It’s not what I expected from square enix in the graphics only tho but its still good very fun to play but I really prefer to play the other game to square enix ( final fantasy to be precise ) but if you don’t mind the graphics you have to get this its really great.

With the new release on the horizon I thought I would try the old version out and see if I liked it. At $15 it seemed reasonable. After installing the software I ran into problems with it accepting a credit card payment (yes my card is SecureCode verified). After 2 months Square Enix is still unable to tell me why my payment won’t be accpeted. They REFUSE to refund me the purchase price. I’ve even contacted the Better Business Bureau for their area. If you check the web you’ll find all kinds of stories of other people who either can’t reactivate their account or start a new one. Customer Service for the product is ABYSSMAL!

Final Fantasy XI is a MMORPG that is designed for the very hard core gamer out there, who doesn’t mind working very hard at a video game, and making tons of friends in game who are equally hard core. There is little to no solo content, and everything takes many hours to complete. If this is your thing, go for it. If not, don’t even try it.

This game is one of the longest, time consuming, never ending, elite binding games. (bought this game back in Dec. of 2006) If you don’t have time, don’t bother with this game. I personally had some times taken hours per day just to gain a level, or maybe just partial of a level, or none at all, depending on what parties were around. Many jobs to level up, too many in fact, 20+, as well some jobs are not worth leveling up anymore. If you planned to party, it used to take 10 min to over 10 hours just to get an invite or put together a party (I left my computer on while I slept). Never the less if you plan on soloing your level, be prepared for the low exp output, especially if a mage type or really “squishy” types.
An averaged example to get a 75 white mage(healing, enfeebling release, protection, back line job) with a black mage(nuker of magics, though it had been nerfed(decreased) in its damage dealing) or red mage (mix of white mage and black mage), with plenty of help from group members and parties, about 1 year. Not to mention in that years time frame, I had well over 500 hours worth of game play(thats like 21 days straight of playing, no rest no nothing)! If you want to level all 20 jobs, think about 20+ years just for that. and then to think of how many Items you would have for each jobs and “mules” you have to pay extra for as character wise, 8 items at a time signing in and out. It can get a little bothersome. Not recommended for low-output internet connections either, some places can hold up to 200, and in one of the battles systems, up to 700 + in one section load!
Overall it’s time has passed and they have not adapted enough for at least somewhat of a nice moneys worth play (13.95/month and 1$ per extra character) You can spend 167$ per year times that by 20, Hahaha 3.3k, yeap and they have over 2k players per sever, with at least 16 servers. 2k x 167 (basic 1 character [good luck with just one!]) 334k per sever they are making, pretty crazy eh? Not to even include the money they get for selling DVD’s with 30 day free trials like hot cakes.
Anywho, don’t buy this game if you don’t have time, it’s just a waist of money, and time, if you havn’t got any to spend.

As an avid MMO’er, I still think FFXI has the best content for its buck amongst all it’s online competitors. I’ve been playing FFXI since it’s Japanese beta and this game is truly amazing even after its several year lifespan. The controls are highly customizable through easy to learn macros. The player may use the keyboard alone in play or combine the use with the computer mouse.
The graphics are great in HD mode (max settings in the FFXI graphic tool). If you have a lower end system, the game is still beautiful in default mode. The game has a solid population over 2 million. You can always find a party or someone to help you out in a needed quest, in game mentor, and etc.
In 2009, the developers has tuned the game to their customers wishes. They introduced a encryption device for in game use and new mini expansions you can purchase via in game & download. Also, you can download the game directly from online vendors for half the cost of the retail price.
FFXI has a slower feel than most MMO’s on the market. The slower process gives you time to truly customize your character’s strengths. Thus, gives you the feeling of actually walking in your character’s shoes. The mature player base and community shines above the rest. The game’s crafting is complex and addictive. Bird raising is an art form and is quite fun. Racing your own bred bird in nation events is addictive and fun. Not to mention the art of capture and battle your favorite monsters in via chamber events. There is so much to do in this game!
You might have heard from others that this game is on its final breath of life to speak. This is not true. I enjoy my gaming on the world of Fairy by the name of Flashlight and there are at least 2000 plus players logged in at prime time. The developers are in the works for a new expansion for XI along with 2 new classes to add to the game. Final Fantasy XI is alive and well! As of 2010, I know several people that came back to Final Fantasy XI.
Come and play! See true online gaming at it’s finest!
