I’ve been using Turbo Tax for 10+ years and once I fell for the old bait-and-switch when I thought the ‘Deluxe’ version was worth the extra bucks. Wrong. The Basic version does everything most taxpayers need, and does it quite well, even if you have a mortgage and itemize deductions. Don’t think you need to upgrade if you have a few complexities to your return or you’re not using 1040EZ. That’s especially true if you live in a state without state income tax (thank you Texas). Can’t speak for rental properties or other complicated examples, but paying extra so someone can tell me what my donated pair of shoes is worth just isn’t worth it.

I’ve used TurboTax for several years. This year at two different points it told me that it would be all but impossible to continue unless I upgraded immediately for $30. I pushed on and found I didn’t need the upgrade at all. It would have been a waste of thirty bucks.
Having used Turbo-tax for 10 years I am very disappointed at this year’s version. They are so busy selling you their IRA’s and tax-filing methods while I am constantly stuck at a point and unable to progress through the process. If there only was a way to file using the 08 version…Thank you
TurboTax Basic used to cover homeowners, but for 2010, the program dropped many functions that were present in the previous years TurboTax. TurboTax is now deceptive forcing customers to more expensive upgrades to cover mortgage and education deductions. I will no longer use TurboTax, because you just don’t know what you are getting from the marketing scripts..Thanks..Keep it up
